Famous Photographer Visits

New Zealand’s best known landscape photographer, Andris Apse, visited the Ruakokoputuna Valley in December 2010 and spent time photographing in the Patuna Chasm and environs.

More Guided Walks Planned
One-off guided walks over dramatic Ruakokoputuna farmland are being planned for March 2011 as a fund-raiser for the local hall. These will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to enjoy striking landscapes and explore our unique forests, rivers and geological features with local people as your guides. Organizer, Lois McAvoy, says that details will be made public in May and bookings will be taken then. She hopes these walks will compliment the existing commercial walks in the area and become an annual feature. For further information contact Lois McAvoy: 06 306 9797

Glow Worm Caves Opened
The Blue Creek Glow Worm Caves were opened to the public on Martinborough Fair Weekend as a fund raiser for the Ruakokoputuna Hall. Thanks to the generosity of the McAvoy family the caves will be opened again on the first weekend in March from 10am to 3pm on Saturday and Sunday. $10 per adult, children free when accompanied by an adult. Torch and gumboots or strong footwear essential. Follow signs from end of Jellicoe Street in Martinborough. For more information contact Angela Calkin 06 306 8106
